SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 19
(By Senators Plymale, Redd, Helmick, Craigo and Walker)
Recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of Marshall
University's football team for the 1998 season.
Whereas, Marshall University's Thundering Herd ended the 1998
football season with twelve wins and only one loss; and
Whereas, The Thundering Herd was ranked twenty-seventh in the
final Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches polls. In addition,
the Thundering Herd was one of only four teams in the nation to be
included in both the top twenty-five ranking for total offense and
for total defense; and
Whereas, The outstanding sportsmanship and team spirit of each
player led the Thundering Herd to capture the East Division of the
Mid-American Conference and the Mid-American Conference
championship for the second consecutive year and win the 1998 Motor
City Bowl in Pontiac, Michigan; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby recognizes the 1998 Marshall University
football team for an outstanding season and for bringing the East
Division, Mid-American Conference and the Motor City Bowl
championships home to the enthusiastic campus of Marshall
University and the State of West Virginia; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the president of Marshall University,
J. Wade Gilley, head football coach Bob Pruett and his coaching
staff and each player of Marshall University's 1998 Thundering Herd
football team.
